A Bit About Me
I began playing at the age of 11 in Hellesdon School brass band. During that time I gained grade certificates from the Royal Schools of Music up to Grade 7 with Distinction. I did my first show on Cromer Pier aged 15, and then went on to play for all the local am-dram groups through out Norfolk. I also joined Drayton Silver Brass Band as principal cornet. In 1978, I did my first professional summer season with the Ray Bennett Sound, and various other bands followed including Jonny Nelson Band, Ken Meazy Big Band, Allen Dennis, Jonathan Wyatt BB (now Front Row BB), Fantasia, Lee Vasey, Superstition, 78RPM Big Band, and lots more.
Professional shows included pantomimes at the Norwich Theatre Royal, West Side Story at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, Manhattan Nights show touring all over England and Wales, five trips to Moscow with Mike Fab Gere and Permissive Society. I joined the Imperial Italian Orchestra as principal trumpet and played cornet for The Lumiere Rouge Ragtime Trad Band.
My Jazz influences are Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Clare Terry, and Chet Baker. I now enjoying playing in two big bands and am brass banding again.
Someone once said, "Old musicians never retire, they just fade away ".
